Batch Tracker
The Batch Tracker
object allows the user to record batch information using inputs from data producing items in the I/O Model. Events from production are tracked and the information is stored in an ISA-88 compliant batch production record (BPR) and stored in the Production Tracking data store of the Mongo DB repository. Contextual equipment information can be provided through links to the ISA-95 Equipment Model. Each relevant piece of equipment involved in the batch production can have it’s own assigned Batch Tracker
object that can write to the same BPR in the Production Tracking data store.
The Batch Tracker
receives Real Time data from the configured input Tags, however, in production systems the flow of real time data can be interrupted (service outages, connectivity issues etc.) and cannot always be relied upon. Therefore, there are multiple options available to configure the Batch Tracker
to receive data on a delay by retrieving historical data - either via a configured static processing delay or a dynamic delay configured in the Batch Recovery Options. There is also the ability to reprocess/recalculate batch data for specific time periods (and specific batches) by creating and configuring Backfill Controller objects below the Batch Tracker
.
Dynamic delay tracking is recommended for all users of the Production Tracking functionality as it ensures that data can be added to Batch Production Records (BPRs) retrospectively when system downtime or disruption of connectivity disrupts real time data flow. |
All the delay options available in the Batch Tracker are reliant on the retrieval of historical data. Therefore it is required that all data Tags configured in the parent Batch Tracker be set to historize data in a Data Store via the Archive Selector property.

Select the parent object and right-click. Select
from the context menu.Batch Tracker objects can be created beneath Core, Connector and Datasource objects. The appropriate component depends on the use case and the location of the data items that provide the content for the production events. -
In the Create Object wizard, enter an Object name and click Create

Select the newly created object in the I/O Model and look at the object properties panel.

Open the Common property compound: the Processing Mode property is by default set to "Configuration" on creation of the object. Once initial configuration is complete, this mode can be changed to start creating production events.

A static processing delay can be configured here. This will delay the retrieval and addition of configured Tag Data to the BPR by the set time. This can be added to overcome any connection/downtime delays that disrupt the flow of data.
The static processing delay delays the retrieval/addition of ALL Tag data whether it is available in real time or not. A suitable static delay value can be difficult to predict and even then, it might still not be sufficient for the requirements of a production system. In these cases, the dynamic delay functionality configured in the Batch Recovery Options is more appropriate. This is discussed below. -
Open the Recovery Options property compound. The properties here are designed to provide dynamic delayed processing options for Tag data that might not have reached the
Batch Tracker
due to system downtime or some other interruption of the data flow. To set up this example, you will need to create and configure some other objects, described on the Batch Heartbeat Monitoring Property Page. Once the objects are created and configured they are added to the Batch Heartbeat Monitoring table property and click OK. -
Open the S95 Settings property compound: Click on the Equipment Assignment … button to open the object picker for the ISA-95 Equipment Model and select an object from the tree. Click Ok in the equipment assignment picker.
The link to ISA-95 equipment objects will automatically add this ISA-95 context to the production event and therefore the Batch Production Record. To include other ISA-95 objects in production events it is necessary to create another Batch Tracker
object. -
Open the Batch Data property compound: Here you can add and define Batch Characteristics, Batch Event Groups and other elements that will be added to the Batch Production Record. For the simplest configuration it is necessary to add Batch Characteristics for "Batch ID" and "Equipment State" (according to the ISA-88 Batch Control standard).

Click on the + button by Batch Characteristics to first add the Batch ID Characteristic. Enter "Batch ID" as the Label property and choose "Batch ID" from the Target Field drop-down menu. For the Input property, a data producing item from any of the models can be selected using the object picker. Select an object that will produces Batch ID numbers (for the purpose of this quick example, you can create an ActionItem or GenItem that return numbers that increase incrementally).

Click on the + button by Batch Characteristics again to add the ISA-88 mandatory "Equipment State" characteristic. Enter "Equipment State" as the Label property and choose "Equipment State" from the Target Field drop-down menu. For the Input property, a item must be chosen that returns a code that matches a EquipmentStates codes (for the purpose of this quick example, you can create an ActionItem or GenItem that returns valid equipment state code numbers).

Click Apply in the Object Properties panel to commit the configuration changes.

Open the Common property compound and change the Processing Mode property to "Simulation" and Click Apply.

Open the Diagnostics property compound, if the configuration is correctly applied, the Process State field should read "Start conditions met, starting to monitor batch 'BatchIDnumber'"

Open the Common property compound and change the Processing Mode property to "Production" and Click Apply.

The Process State field should now read "Continuous monitoring of batch 'BatchIDnumber'". Production events are now being created and archived in the Production Tracking data store.

Open the Calendar display (from the menu bar , shortcut Ctrl+K)

Go to the ISA-95 Equipment Model and drag-and-drop the equipment model that was selected for the Equipment Assignment property into the Calendar display to see the Production Tracking information and view individual Production Batch Records.
Object Properties
The user-modifiable object name. This name overrides the name which has been supplied by the external system. It must be unique within the collection of objects of the parent object. Options for the recovery of the BatchTracker. Path of the objects to monitor for their backlog. A Recovery is not started prior to a sufficient synchronization of the backlogs. Compound to manage the batch active state. Select one or multiple options to determine the transition to inactive state. Equipment State: The Batch will be set to inactive when the Batch Equipment State equals Completed or Aborted according to S88. Accordingly a batch will be set to active whenever an appropriate S88 state is determined. Batch ID Changes: The Batch will be set to inactive when the Batch ID changes. Consequently a new batch will be set to active in this case. Active Edge Falls: The Batch will be set to inactive when the Batch Active indicator is false. Consequently a new batch will be set to active when the Batch Active indicator raises to true. Script Returns False: The Batch will be set to inactive when the user supplied script returns false.
